The Social Stigma That I See

Do you know what stigma means? There are many different definitions the one I’m using is social stigma which means to disapprove of someone for either race, religion, or any type of physical illness and etc. the type of stigma that I see today is towards special needs children and when there are kids in special needs a lot of the time there are people who make fun of them just because of their disability. My relationship towards this is that I use to have my sister who did need special needs. She passed away because the conditions of her problems I never got to meet her because she passed away before I was born. She never dealt with anybody in school because she was too young to be in school but I know how some people react to kids or even adults who have special needs.

Society now compared to when I was younger has probably matured up into seeing how special needs kids and adults are because now a lot of people stand up for them and treat them how they need to be treated by not giving them dirty looks or making fun of them behind their backs. The media now is also trying to help by doing commercials that special need people are like us and shouldn’t be mistreated by the way they look. What I see people doing to repair this problem is by giving workshops to young and even older people to not mistreat special needs people but to treat them the way we want to be treated. So awareness has grown for this and it’s a good thing it has because people are now reacting towards it but in a good way.
